One of our most popular writing retreats is back for 2024!
Our Finding Your Voice Retreat brings together poetry, fiction and nonfiction writers for an intensive week of generative writing, craft seminars, one-on-one conferences, and in-depth discussions on the craft and business of writing. Our program is inclusive, intentionally small, and will take place on the shores of Lake Huron on an island set between Michigan’s Lower and Upper Peninsulas with breathtaking views and the peace of a locale free of motor traffic and metropolitan noise.
This intimate writing retreat is open to all writers who want to strengthen their voice, develop a greater understanding of craft, and forge a path to publication along the way. We take your writing seriously and place the highest importance on teaching the craft of writing so that students can produce meaningful and memorable work that has the opportunity to find a readership beyond the retreat. Our mission is to bring your writing out of the wilderness and into community, and for a week this fall, we think there is no better place to do this than on the sunrise side of a peaceful Midwest island that has been a historic landmark since the 19th century, at our writers retreat.
Retreat Dates: September 9th - 13th, 2024

Applications for our September 2024 Tuscany workshops are open!
2024 Workshop Dates:
September 20th - 25th, 2024
This September, immerse yourself in the art of storytelling amidst the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany. Our Tuscany Writing Workshops gather an intimate group of fiction and nonfiction writers for an intensive week of creativity, craft seminars, one-on-one conferences, and in-depth discussions on the craft and business of writing.
Led by National Book Award Finalist Brandon Hobson, Pulitzer Prize Finalist Chloé Cooper Jones, and award-winning novelist Kelly Luce, our program is designed to be intentionally small, ensuring personalized attention and a close-knit community atmosphere.
Nestled in the picturesque Tuscan landscape, each workshop will accept no more than 10 participants, fostering an environment of focused learning and exchange. Upon acceptance, writers are invited to submit two pieces of their work; one will be workshopped by your peers and instructor for group feedback, while the other is reserved for a private consultation with your workshop leader, offering tailored guidance on your writing journey.
Our daily craft talks, open to all participants, are led by our faculty. Whether you’re looking to hone your voice, deepen your understanding of literary craft, or navigate the path to publication, our workshops are designed to support your goals. We are committed to treating your writing with the seriousness it deserves, teaching the craft necessary for producing impactful and enduring work that resonates with readers far beyond the confines of the workshop.
At Writing Workshops Tuscany, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Italy’s heartland, our mission is to nurture your writing from the solitary confines of the drafting table into the warmth of a vibrant community. For one week in September, we believe there is no more inspiring setting for this transformative experience than amidst the historic charm and natural beauty of Tuscany, a region celebrated for its cultural heritage and artistic spirit.
